This is the first dose of reality for the neophyte short term missionary. The syringe is filled with a serum containing the chemical compound necessary to protect your body from an exotic disease that you could quite easily come into contact with on your fast approaching journey. Yellow fever, Hepatitis A, and just for kicks let’s throw in a jab for Tetanus. What a blessing to live in a country with the world’s finest health care. The local health department has a chart of every country on the planet with its list of recommended inoculations.


In the hands of a skilled nurse you quickly learn that your fears are unfounded and the agony you were convinced was to follow is little more that a mild prick.
